Hello Magical Lady!
Before I tell you what I did instead of working today,  please know that I do not feel one ounce of guilt.  I actually feel a little proud of myself! I feel good inside.
As women, we are for the most part, quite good at multi-tasking, so we do.  We are quite good at putting others’ needs before our own, so we do.  We are also really good at not saying “No!”,  that is unless it comes to taking time for our own self-care and self-love. This is when we are quite good at feeling guilty and will automatically tell ourselves, “No, I can’t do that. I don’t have the time.  I’ve gotsooooo much to do!”  Quite often we are given the label, “Wonder Woman” as we can and will do everything to keep things running smoothly in our lives, as well as the lives of our loved ones.
I learned years ago, after my husband’s cancer diagnosis (he is doing great now), after having a son serve in Iraq for a year, and most recently, after losing my very closest friend to pancreatic cancer, that we have to learn to say “Yes!” a whole lot more.  We must say “Yes” to those moments where we can spend quality time with our loved ones.  We should say “Yes” to taking some time for ourselves, to just chill and maybe have a bit of fun.  We need to say “Yes!” as we must  take the time, for there will come a time, when there is no more time.  It is okay to take time for me.  It is okay if I am not “Wonder Woman” for a day, or two or even three.
So when my girlfriend asked me, “What are you doing at lunchtime today?”  I first thought to myself, “I’ve got so much writing to do! So much bookkeeping to catch up on.  So much!
SO MUCH!!!!”  Yet, something inside of me made me say, “Why? What do you want to do?”
So, this afternoon, instead of doing all those things I thought I should have been doing, all those things that can and will get done tomorrow, my girlfriend and I did something that I have not done in a number of years.  We went to a Matinee. I bought a medium size bag of popcorn to share, and the two of us sat in a cool dark movie theater on a hot Tuesday afternoon, and lost ourselves for a couple of hours as we watched “Wonder Woman” up on the big screen.
Which is exactly where she needed to stay today.
